About InvestMitt
Who We Are
Our mission started back in 2020 as a grassroots startup. A small group of dedicated locals came together and realized that they had a common vision, to make Northern Michigan a flourishing community for generations. That group became what is now known as InvestMitt Cooperative.
After four years of grassroots organizing and community brainstorming, InvestMitt was officially founded as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2024. We got to work on developing northern Michigan's first Community Investment Fund, which launched in 2026. A Community Investment Fund is an innovative way to pool funds together to create local capital that can be recycled repeatedly to solve local challenges like workforce housing needs. We are creating a sustainable source of financing for housing that remains rooted in northern Michigan.
We believe that everyone—no matter their income—deserves a say in how their community grows, a fair opportunity to invest in its future, and access to housing they can afford. Through InvestMitt, everyday people can come together to fund housing solutions, keep profits local, and build lasting community wealth.

Traditionally, investing has largely meant putting your money into distant markets, companies, and funds—often with little connection to the places where we live and the communities we call home. But that’s beginning to change. InvestMitt is helping open that door, inviting people from across our community to invest in the places, people, and ideas that matter to us.
