What does it mean to be a Member?Members are people who make annual membership donations to the Cooperative. Those wanting to become members of the Cooperative are encouraged to donate $25 or more annually, but give what you can. Members do not need to be investors. Members receive the opportunity to vote for candidates for the Board of Directors and possibly other decisions from time to time as offered by the Board. Members are welcome to attend any meeting of the Board of Directors.

What's in it for me?Members receive the opportunity to vote for candidates for the Board of Directors and possibly other decisions from time to time as offered by the Board. Members are welcome to attend any meeting of the Board of Directors, and to bring their concerns, opinions, and suggestions regarding local housing problems with them. These opportunities help empower everyday people in our community—regardless of position, income, or background—to voice their opinion on local housing decisions that directly affect their neighborhood and community.
-
What does my donation go towards?Donations contribute to operational expenses of the Cooperative and makes possible the administration of the Investment Fund, so that it can provide a modest financial return to community investors and a social impact (low interest loans or providing lower cost living units). These operational expenses include website and domain hosting fees; banking fees; accounting, audit, and other consultant fees; mailing, marketing, and materials fees; etc. In addition, the InvestMitt Board of Directors is an all volunteer board and is seeking to hire InvestMitt's first staff member, which will be made possible by Member donations. Any donations above and beyond administrative or staffing expenses may be applied to property administration fees or building acquisition or renovation costs to keep increasing the positive social impact of InvestMitt (subsidize expenses to keep housing rents or sales lower).
-
Is my donation tax deductable?Yes, InvestMitt Cooperative is a Michigan 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and all donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law. If you would like an official donation receipt for tax purposes beyond what our online donation software can provide, please contact us.
